Fireworks - Mareietta Square

OK, I'm finally posting my fireworks pictures from this year. This time we went to see them at Marietta Square with some friends. Our location wasn't the easiest for setting the tripod up - the side of a VERY steep hill; but I still got some shots. And most important, the kids had lots of fun watching with their friends.

I can't believe McLean is already a year old!! I just love this family and feel honored to have been there to record so much of their son's first year. I loved all of his little teeth and his toothy smiles! I learned that he really enjoys watermelon, balloons and cake! I can't wait to finish editing this session!

I have been a bad, bad blogger! I'm way behind. So I'm trying to catch up. I hope to get at least 3 blog posts done this week (including this one). So lets start with some adorable girls dancing in a field. They had so much fun and I just loved the light! Look at these cute babies! We had fun talking and getting some pictures in the garden on the roof of their apartment building. Certainly not something I see in the suburbs of Atlanta! I'm sorry if I'm a little slow to get back to you right now; but I'm out of town with the kids. My parents and I decided to take the kids to NYC for a bit and we are doing the tourist thing. My poor husband is stuck at home working, so I have been sure to take lots of pictures. One thing that I have thought about on this trip is how important it is to make sure that you capture your kids being themselves! It is great to have smiley (often posed) pictures; but it is also important to have pictures of your kids doing their day to day things as well as the special fun things - like vacation. In that mindset, here are three pictures I have pulled up from our time around the city - one daughter at the New York Public Library, reading to some stuffed animals; my other daughter wearing her favorite new thing and my son's latest fashion statement. These are all moments and things that I want to be sure to remember for years to come. And I want to remind all of you to pick up your cameras and capture some moments; let the kids do their own thing and you snap away!

I'm going to post some personal snapshots because it was such a great time and I want to give credit to the place where we had the party. My twins turned 6 and we decided to have their party away from our neighborhood. I some how stumbled across this website. I am so glad I did! The kids all had so much fun. Jessica, the girl who does the parties, was very easy to work with to get everything set up for the party. The kids loved riding the horses, doing a craft, hitting the pinata and watching the miniature horse do tricks. If you are looking for something a little different to do for your kid's party I really recommend you talk with Jessica about doing a horse party!

I got paranoid that there wouldn't be enough cake, so at the last minute I ordered the Scooby Doo cake. It turned out that I didn't need it. We had a LOT of cake left over. The adorable horse cake was made by Jessica's grandmother. :-)

We missed 12 months due to the craziness of spring; but got some super cute shots for 13 months. I thought I'd post some black and whites because these just look so good in black and white! Hannah's mom and I now joke that I probably just need to have a "Hannah gallery" on my site because it is so hard for me to pick from all of the pictures I have of her when selecting pictures for my galleries. My kids have had this kitchen for years and Hannah's mom made her this adorable apron and chef hat. I love how the picture came out! And the other two, well they are just pure Hannah cuteness! (kitchen picture inspired by Life in Motion Photography.)

I know I have pretty much kept this blog to posts related to photography or my business; but I couldn't resist this one. As I blogged about before, I was so excited to get to use a song from The Verve Pipe's Family Album on my site. Well, now I'm going to get to take my kids to see these guys play at Eddie's Attic. The kids are all SO excited and I am too. So, if you haven't already made plans for May 15 (or if they can be changed), consider this show. This was an impromptu mini session for my youngest daughter's ski teacher. We had too many groceries when it was time to go home and her teacher agreed to take them off our hands. When he answered the door with this adorable guy in his arms I just had to take a few quick pictures.

You know how sometimes you have this picture in your head of what you want? Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't. I didn't this time. ;-) Little brother did NOT want to be on big brother's shoulders! But I think it is still sweet because you can see how much these kids enjoy each other!

The other day we took advantage the gorgeous weather (well, it was for a few days, now it is back to RAIN) and got a special session in. Dad is out of town for a while, so mom and I are working together to surprise him with pictures of the kids. As I started going through the pictures I realized that I couldn't narrow it down to just a few for my blog. So... I'm doing 3 days of posts - one kid per post. But first, how cute are they?

Now, on to the big sister. She is a dancer and so full of life. Oh, and how sweet is she with her dog?! (I guess technically she is the middle child; but that still makes her the big sister to her little brother...)

I am so glad to have my site up! I have been working on it for at least a month and it is a weight off of my shoulders to have it done. A little back story...

I decided I wanted music on my new site. My husband wasn't sold on this. But he humored me as I talked about it. I could NOT find the right song. I must have listened to hundreds of songs that I could get permission to use or royalty free music. But nothing was right. In my mind I kept thinking of this song on a kids album that my three and I started listening to online at the end of last year. There was this one song that was right. The problem was it was a song by The Verve Pipe. I mean seriously, how would I even get in touch with them? But... as time went on I just couldn't find anything that was as perfect as that one song. I couldn't even find anything that came close. So, I asked my husband how I would get in touch with a band to ask to use their music (he knows WAY more about music than I do). He gave me some suggestions. I found an e-mail address for The Verve Pipe and decided to go for it. I e-mailed and asked if I could use it for my new site. I called my husband and told him I had sent the e-mail and I hoped that I would hear back. At this point he asked who the band was. When I told him he chuckled and asked if I had a back up plan... they were kind of a major band and might not even own the rights to the song.

But I kept my hopes up and I worked on my site. And last Friday I got an e-mail from The Verve Pipe's manager. And we worked it out. I got permission to use the ONE song I wanted for my site!

My kids love all of the songs and I enjoy them too! Even my husband had to admit that if I'm going to have music on my site that this is a good song for it.

I missed my deadline...

Obviously, I missed my deadline. The weather here on Sunday was sunny and warm - almost 70! So... I decided that since I am my own boss I could extend my deadline if I needed to and I took the kids to the zoo. It was a fabulous day and the kids had a blast. I still thought I would have enough time on Monday to get it finished; but then I had car trouble and that ate up too much time.

My new deadline is by tomorrow night (2/24) and I'm on schedule to be done! I can't wait for everyone to see it, sorry for the delay.

Yesterday I had a great shoot with 9 month old Lucas. At the end we let him try a lollipop and I think it was love. I had a ton of fun and left convinced this sweetie can't take a bad picture!

I adore this family. This session was so much fun! And does mom look familiar? She was on TLC's "What Not to Wear". Stacy and Clint would be proud - she looked great and even wore some cute heels while running around the gardens with her girls!

When I did Will and John's pictures *just* before Christmas (seriously, it was about a week before!) our plan was get the pictures for the card and then I'd get the rest of the pictures edited in January since I was at least trying to take a few weeks off for "vacation". So... I'm back to working on Will and John's pictures. Those boys are sooo cute! Oh, and be on the look out for them to show up in a post I'm working on with my favorite outtakes of 2009 - there is one that cracked me up when I opened it!

I'm just starting to go through some pictures from today. Today we had one goal - get pictures for Sophia's birthday card. Earlier in the shoot I had commented to her mom that I had never heard her cry before, so that makes this picture even more unusual since she is such a happy baby! Just don't take away her crackers!!! I got lots more with a smiling, happy Sophia that I'll post later; but I couldn't resist posting this one picture. (oh, and this is not her picture for her invite, we went with smiling Sophia for that!)

Santa pictures for the multiples club

Today I did holiday pictures for the Cobb Parents of Multiples Club's holiday party. Wow, that was a lot of work! I think there were 20 families that got pictures done today. Most with Santa, a few without. The kids and parents all did great! Here are a few from today, I'll have the gallery up by Thursday morning with everyone's pictures. Here is Hannah again! As cute as ever. We were going for tree and Santa pictures. She wasn't too fond of Santa though. And she wasn't even too into the tree today. Her mom tells me that normally she is all about taking the ornaments; but today it took some bribing to get her to hang out around the tree. I think we got some super sweet shots though, I hope you guys like them. :-)

We headed to Chicago to visit my husband's family for Thanksgiving. Everyone had a great time and I even got a chance to get some senior pictures of my husband's cousin. It was a little cold; but Olivia was great about stopping for photo opps around the zoo. And of coarse, I had to go for one picture of my husband's aunt and her three girls. Somehow I missed getting a picture with all 4 of the kids though.

I spent the morning getting pictures of these three cuties. They were very happy to hear that we were going to play tea party, and had a good time pretending to pour tea. They also got a chance to explore, jump and run. These are just the first two pictures I have gotten to. I have to head out of town now; but wanted to get a couple up before leaving. Day Out With Thomas - Cordele, GA

We took the kids to see Thomas the Tank Engine over the weekend. I was a very bad photographer and did not take many pictures. Most that I did take were just snap shots of the kids having fun. I did like how these 2 came out. Thomas himself and then a butterfly (or is it a moth...) on some flowers near the train. If you have little kids and have not taken them to see Thomas I highly recomend it! At least in Cordele they really do it up. There is a ton of free stuff to do with the kids - hay mazes, bubbles, face painting... and then there is Thomas, the highlight of the day.

A photographer friend invited me to a "shoot out" last week - lots of photographers, a few models, a studio... let's see what happens. I was way out of my comfort zone. Shooting adults with no kids present? Oh my! Studio lighting? Oh my! It was a great experience and something I definitely want to try again. Here are a few of my shots from the night.

Christmas Special!

It is hard to believe that Christmas is almost here! I have four slots left for Christmas sessions at a special rate. This year I am offering on location (of your choice) shoots for $200 which include 25 two sided photo cards and three mini brag books (they make great gifts for the grand parents). That is a savings of $110.00! In order to guarantee that your cards will be back in time for mailing, these sessions must be done no later than November 15.

If you are looking to do a holiday session without cards; but will need to have the pictures back in time for giving at Christmas the session would need to be done no later than November 30.

I thought it might be good if I edited this post to show what a "mini brag book" is. Here is an example of one I recently did. These albums hold 9 pictures. For the special you will get 3 copies of the same album. I will work with you to determine which pictures from your session work best and what color will be best for the album cover.

On Thursday I babysat these twins for a little while after they got out of pre-school. They are in my youngest daughter's class, so the three of them had lots of fun playing. I couldn't resist getting a few pictures of them. I quickly learned that one twin is quite the ham, the other... not so much. :-D

I think I want to change the way I do black and white pictures. I have done them one way for a while and now I'm looking for something new. So, here I have one little girl (Maggie - isn't she adorable?), 3 different pictures, 3 different styles. Yes, I realized as I started typing this that I should have tried each conversion on the *same* picture; but I need to get to bed. So, I'll do this today and maybe later this week I'll come back and post with all the same picture. For now though, let me know which you like best. The first is more of a true black and white. The second has a bit of a warm tone to it. The third has a bit of a chocolate tone to it. I know my husband will say, "Um, I don't see a difference." But if you do see a difference let me know what you think. If you don't see a difference, let me know that too. ;-)

I could spend an entire day there just getting pictures - some of those animals are more cooperative than my kids. ;-) Did you notice the eye contact the panda gave me in the picture from my last post? I'd have to promise my 3 year old a bag full of M&Ms to get that! Although, that bird seems to be as fond of my camera as my son is. ;-)

Hannah was getting tired of playing model in the gardens, so we headed back to her house to do some smash cake pictures. All crankiness was forgotten when that cupcake came out! She was so adorable. :-) First she tasted, liked it, and then dug in. She did offer some to her mom; but seemed pretty happy when she was told it was all for her. She ate the entire cupcake (and that was one BIG cupcake). Then she picked up the plate and licked it. Then she tried to stand up; but kept slipping in the butter cream. I am so glad that I was there to capture this cuteness!

I had the pleasure of photographing this adorable little girl for her 1 year pictures. We found some great lighting at one of my favorite locations and got a lot of great pictures. We were at the beach (well, the Chesapeake Bay) for the past week+. I am just starting to go through the pictures; but here are some of my favorites with sun flare. I'm sure I'll be posting more from our trip as I make it through them. I hope that everyone is having a wonderful summer!

I especially thought this one was appropriate - I took it on the evening of July 3. The red, white and blue sun flare seemed so appropriate for the holiday weekend!

I shared a few pictures from this family a couple of weeks ago - the cute little red headed toddler, the cute little red headed baby and the golden retriever. Well, I have finished up editing and I just have to share a few more from this session. This baby is just so cute! My oldest daughter wants me to bring him home. ;-)

Here are just a few more from our walk around Kennesaw Battlefield Park. Another daisy and then a few of a tiny little bee on a dandelion. This little bee was flying up to the flower as we came up to it. I took pictures and encouraged the kids to check it out for several minutes. Then we went on our way - the bee still doing its thing at the flower. I wonder how much time a bee spends at any one flower...

The kids thought it was pretty cool; but were not so sure about being this close to a bee. They did ask if we could follow it to see it finish making honey though. :-) I think someone has seen "Bee Movie" one too many times. ;-)

Today I took my kids to do lots of stuff. We went to East Cobb Park to play with some friends. Then I took them to the part of Kennesaw Battlefield Park that is near John Ward and Dallas Hwy. Then we even went to "play tennis" - so cute. Unfortunately all of this was smack in the middle of the day - not a good time to get pictures of the kids! I think they were thrilled though that I wasn't trying to get their pictures today. They all played nicely while I took pictures of flowers, flags and mushrooms. I did get one nice contemplative picture of V though.

I can't believe how much Tucker has grown! He is no longer a baby at all, he is definitely a toddler now, and such a fun kid. For me this is such a reminder about how important it is to get pictures of kids as often as you can - they grow up way too fast and it is so easy to miss it day to day. Here is a Tucker in May 2008 and then one taken just last weekend - May 2009.

I got a chance to photograph Jenni's adorable family again yesterday. (You might remember her from the belly shot with the booties on it.) Little Will is about the cutest newborn I have ever seen with his wild and crazy red hair. And Patrick is such a great big brother! I couldn't resist a few shots of Bella, their dog. Jenni and Matt - thanks for letting me spend some time with you guys yesterday! I can't wait to get finished with these pictures, I think that I have some of my favorite pictures yet from this session.

A trip to D.C. and a wedding

Last week we went up to D.C. for my cousin's wedding. The weather was wonderful and everyone had a great time. Here are a few (ok, a lot) of pictures from our trip.

Around D.C. - some flowers, the Washington Monument and two of my kids walking with my dad and step mom (my oldest daughter was back with me).

And some from the wedding... the dogwood tree outside the church, the stained glass window inside the church, some of the bride and groom, and then one of my youngest daughter dancing with her second cousin. I didn't get many from the wedding... I was paranoid about getting in the photographer's way.

It looks like we got those maternity pictures done just in time. Today I got to go take pictures of 6 day old Talia. She is just as cute as her big brother! I got the special treat of photographing three generations of the women (and girl) of this sweet family.

Today I decided to put together a story board from the maternity session I did a few weeks ago. I love working on things like this! I'm not always one for selective coloring; but the mom made these booties herself for their little one to wear home from the hospital, so I thought that their special significance warranted a little special attention.

Yesterday was my youngest daughter's 3rd birthday party. I got this snapshot of one of her friends and thought it was just too cute. Not technically a perfect picture; but look at that smile and eye contact!

I went to Idaho and Wyoming for a few weeks to go skiing and take the kids skiing. We had so much fun and it was so pretty out there. I have just started editing the pictures; but I really like how these came out. The sun one was taken at Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming - just goofing off between pictures of the kids skiing. The barn was what we saw from our condo's kitchen window in Driggs, ID.

I took pictures of Keri and Reggie today. Keri is just over 35 weeks pregnant now and looks great! I had so much fun getting pictures of them and I can't wait to take some pictures of their little boy in about a month.

I have just started going through the pictures; but I am absolutely loving this one. I have a feeling I might put some more in my blog as I continue editing!

Easter is coming up so fast, and with it SPRING! I can't wait for all of the flowers to bloom and the grass to turn green. For now I'll make do with some cute bunny ears though.

Jenni has got to be about the cutest pregnant woman I have ever known. And she is such a good sport! She let me experiment with maternity photography and kept a smile on her face. Too bad her 18 month old wasn't too eager to get his picture taken with his mom. I do think I might have gotten one with him in it; but I have to get that one edited.

I finally started looking through the pictures from the girls' Christmas ballet recital and put together this quick story board of E. She was so cute. Since she is only about 2.5 years old I didn't know what to expect from her. She did most of the dance and at the end she leaned over and picked up her mat to put it away just like she does each week in class. :-)
